A Seminarian Is Never Right

If he laughs, they say he is never serious about life:
If he doesn’t, then he is trying to carry the whole world on his back,
If he cries, he is overly sentimental;
If he doesn’t, he is insensitive to the max,
If he drinks, he is a drunkard;
If he doesn’t, he is indifferent,
If he wears plain clothes, he’s very informal, without class;
If he dresses up for an occasion, he is too mundane,
If he has girl friend, he’s not a good seminarian;
If he doesn’t, then he is not a true man,
If he seen reading a book, he’s a boring nerd of some kind;
If he isn’t, he’s dumb, there’s nothing in his mind
If he’s kneeling in the church, he must have grown wings;
If he’s not, he has no prayer life,
If he reasons out, he is rebellious, full of alibis;
If he remains silent, he has no principles, without a spine,
A seminarian’s life is never easy for perseveringly’
He answers the call whether or not he si chosen at all,
While in the seminary, they tell him he’s meant for other things;
But when he leaves the seminary for good… everybody wonders why?

Life is Beautiful

The sunlight brings color to my day
The air touches my soul so tender
People passing by, singing and praising
Under the care of angels from heavenward

The trees are swaying and dancing
Through the sound of the blowing wind
Birds go flying singing above the sky
With their fellow animals shouting with gladness

Oh! Life is beautiful!
Take and live it to the fullest
Life pass only once enjoy it
Coz’ you may never pass cross life’s wondrous beauty again.

Seminary is a perfect avenue for seeds to grow and to bear sweet fruits. Here, is a perfect place for a seminarian [soon to be priest] to improve his academic performance, to be mature in dealing with different personalities and to nourish his spiritual life – to know God intimately and be His perfect disciple in the future.

When I entered the seminary, my entire personality changed; from bad to good and from good to best. I have established a strong foundation beneath my feet that gives me the focus to serve God and His people.

However, I am not a pretentious martyr not to experience difficulties and adversities. For almost three (3) years of staying in the seminary, I had faced big waves and deadly floods in my journey. Many different crisis in the academe, apostolate, financial and in myspiritual life that tested my conviction to my chosen vocation.

Specifically, I was affected the most in my spiritual dryness, and even until now, and I’m really sure that most of us (seminarians) feel the same. Thus, this spiritual dryness is caused not only by internal conflicts but most of the time is caused by external disturbances. We find it difficult to talk to God in a deep silence and comfortability. It is a fact that comfortability is one the most important factor that a seminarian should feelbefore communicating to God. The place of spiritual activities must be a cozy ambiance with tranquil environment. However, our present chapel where we conduct all of our spiritual activities is far from the descriptions given. The room is very open, that even the sounds of the frogs and chickens are audible. When one of the seminarians will move from his chair, all of us will vibrate and disturb because our chairs are very close from one another. During noon time or even in the afternoon, all of us will bath from sweats because of hotness of the temperature during these times.

But, because of this problem the seminary is doing its best in responding to our needs in the formation. In fact, the seminary started to build a new chapel, that is perfect for spiritual nourishment.

However, the construction of the said chapel was stopped for almost two (2) years because of financial constraints. The newly unfinished chapel has no yet floor tiles, windows, ceilings, lights and other materials that is very important in the completion of the construction.

Hence, I wrote this article to touch the heart of those generous individuals to help us financially in the completion of the said chapel. Your assistance is a big share in nourishing the vocation of true future servants of God. You are the only hope that would produce great priests who will steer this world to greater heights. Attractiveness is the Integrity of Heart and Mind

INSPIRATIONAL TALK
Search for Mr. MMCS 2007
MMC Seminary, Togbongon, Surigao City

work of art

My salute to our seminary rector – Fr. Boy Mantilla, to our dean of seminarians – Fr. Larry Espuerta, our ever-smiling highly spirited man – Fr. Renren Mantilla, to our honored guests Dr. Ipat Soringa and Ma’am Victoria Abella, to the seminarians, seminary personnel, friends (and enemies), visitors, ladies and gentlemen, good evening.

When I was asked to give words of inspiration, I said “what can I have to this people” that will inspire them despite of who they are?” Kay di naman gyud malalis, yaot ra man gihapon sila?

Your theme attractiveness is the integrity of heart and mind” speaks for itself. This theme, as I see it already inspires those who seemed to be almost handsome and beautiful. I said “almost” because the truth is, they are not handsome and beautiful. Perhaps we can gauge ourselves according to what we really see and by this, maybe we can humbly accept or even proudly appreciate the gift of person that is given to us. Unsaon man ingon raman gyud ta ani! Pagkadimalas! Busa dawata nalang ninyo nga mga yaot kamo…unsaon man di man mo sama nako nga dili kayo yaot. Puera buyag! Kaya, isipin n’yo nalang na talagang bigay ‘yan ng Diyos…His precious gift – our person and the whole of our being – maging sino ka man!

This is something exceptional that a seminary should search for somebody that we can consider fit physically, mentally, spiritually and heartily! Your theme is fair enough especially those who are not physically handsome and beautiful. However, you don’t have to worry. As long as you allow your heart and mind to play fairly, integrating them with all the sense of value, generosity, love, compassion and kindness; I believe that, that indeed, is already a beauty in itself. Although there is a saying that goes “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”, for me I would insist that beauty is the interplay and integration of heart and mind projected in our body and in our life.

My dear seminarians, you might have a physical appearance enough for your own – “yaot” seguro, or “ngitngit seguro, or morag Zakeo ka, or mora ka sa salida nga si Shrek. But if you have the heart that knows how to love and the mind that knows how to understand; thus you know how to reach out, you know how to be kind, you know how to share, you know how to help, you know how to sacrifice, and many more good values and traits that you can ably do; then you are more than beautiful and handsome, because true beauty comes from within – from the mind and the heart.

We need not to search for MR. MMCS, for all of you are qualified and chosen. What we are for now, we look only for the best that perhaps inspires us to live life with meaning as seminarians, a model perhaps or a companion in our journey to life.

Beauty

Attractiveness is the integrity of heart and mind. As you continue to respond the noble cal of the Lord, as you study and do your duties, as you relate with each other and those with your superiors and subordinates, aim and dream to allow yourselves to grow integrally. Allow your heart to grow more in love, in sacrifices, in joys, in compassion, in kindness, in sincerity and allow your mind too to grow, to widen and be brilliant with knowledge that will form you fit as God’s future servants. Bisan kon yaot ra kamo ug wayong, basta nindot ang kasingkasing ug salabutan, nindot gihapon ang inyong pagkatawo! We might not be the best person physically, but we can still be the best person if we have the heart and mind that lives as beautiful as it should be.

So good luck to all – handsome, and beautiful, not only physically, but most especially, integrally and internally – a challenge is at stake, go on! For indeed attractiveness comes from the integration of heart and mind put into concrete life’s situation. May you aim for a beauty from within – the beauty that comes from the mind and the heart, for what is essential is invisible to the eyes!

Thank you…
